POSITION SUMMARY

Operations Manager is responsible for all aspects of Facility Operations including Production, Facility Maintenance, EHS and Project Management at our Moses Lake, WA facility. Establishes long-term planning to create initiatives that support the company’s overall benchmarks. Coordinates with different teams to foster exchange of ideas and provide cross-team learning opportunities and teamwork. Assesses and analyzes departmental budgets to find ways to minimize expenses and optimize profits. Inspires and motivates employees to perform at their best through coaching and positive encouragement. Communicates with senior officials and or the board when shifting company priorities and projects as required. Identifies potential problems and works to find solutions to maximize facility and production efficiencies. Supports training programs, reinforces safety, monitors facility, and operational infrastructure to ensure production consistency and quality standards are met.

Production:

  • Manage and oversee microalgae production to meet production targets.
  • Create and institute production schedules to meet demand and support inventory requirements.
  • Develop production staffing, work duties and proceduresto meet production goals.
  • Develop, document, and enforce manufacturing processSOPs, and safety guidelines per cGMP.
  • Lead, coach and motivate and production personnel.
  • Ensure environmental and quality guidelines are being followed.
  • Manage and oversee production.
  • Monitor all phases of production and assess data to create comprehensive reports.
  • Implements and enforces changes to processes and or procedures to support product consistency and process repeatability.
  • Monitor supplies to ensure they efficiently and effectively provide required materials and or services within established contractual limits.

Facilities Maintenance:

  • Establish, supervise, and enforce safe workplace practices and applicable safety and health policies to maintain a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Adhere toall safe workplace practices and policies and actively participate in safety programs.
  • Perform Predictive, Preventive and Corrective maintenance to improve efficiency and reliability of all facility and operational equipment
  • Develop and institute long and short-term solutions to minimize facility operational costs
  • Manage a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), that incorporates the appropriate predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance requirements to effectively plan and schedule maintenance activities.
  • Develop and utilize procedures and establish checklists to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of best maintenance practices
  • Develop and implement training programs for members of the maintenance team to include facility and equipment operational standards and requirements.
  • Continuously monitor facility and operational activities to ensure the effectiveness, reliability, and consistency of best maintenance practices.
  • Coordinate with QA, production, and logistics.
  • Develop, implement, manage, and participate in required programs and practices to comply with all applicable safety, health, loss prevention, and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Supervise maintenance personnel

Safety:

  • Monitor environmental, health and safety to provide a safe workplace for employees
  • Inform, educate, and empower people concerning EHS
  • Mobilize safety team to identify, solve and institute action plans to eliminate work hazards
  • Develop EHS policies and plans
  • Enforce policies, laws, and regulations that that provide a healthy and safe work environment
  • Assure a knowledgeable and safe workforce
  • Evaluate effectiveness of EHS polices and plans

Project Management:

  • Lead the planning and implementation of project(s)
  • Facilitate project scope and goals
  • Define project tasks and resource requirements
  • Develop full scale project plans
  • Assemble and coordinate project staff
  • Manage project budget
  • Manage project resource allocation
  • Plan and schedule project timelines
  • Provide direction and support to project team
  • Present reports defining project progress, problems, and solutions to upper management
  • Implement and manage project changes and interventions to achieve project requirements

Food Safety and Security:

  • Responsible for upholding the principles of the Company’s food safety certification program.
  • Responsible for immediately reporting any food safety, food quality or plant security issues to management for appropriate action.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Position directly supervises – EHS, Maintenance, Project, and Production teams

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university.

Experience:

  • 10 plus years in progressively responsible management roles
  • 8 plus years of relevant food manufacturing.
  • Direct experience in commercial scale microalgae production is preferred.
  • 8 plus years Facility Maintenance experience
  • 8 plus years Project Management experience
  • 8 plus years EHS Management experience

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work flexible days and hours to support business needs

The physical demands described in the attached Physical Requirement and Environmental Conditions Analysis represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Position requires working in an indoor production environment with routine duties in a clean room environment.
