An active dog is a sign of wellness. What keeps a dog active and well though? The body has thousands of mitochondria, which are the center of energy production responsible for converting nutrients into ATP, the energy currency of the cell. At the same time, mitochondria are also producing unstable and potentially damaging reactive oxygen species (ROS) as by-products. It is estimated that an average cell uses about 10 billion ATP and produces about 20 trillion ROS every day.
